Flat wire, also known as flat wire, flattened wire, flat Angle wire or ultra-narrow strip, refers to the cross-section of the opposite sex metal wire approximately rounded rectangle, thickness from 0.025mm to 2mm, width is generally less than 5mm.  Its thickness ratio varies from 2:1 to 50:1.  Because of its ribbon-like appearance, flat silk is sometimes called ultra-narrow flat ribbon.  Compared with the common round wire, flat wire has unique advantages in heat dissipation, welding contact area, fatigue resistance, hardness control and other aspects.  

The production method of flat wire is mainly divided into rolling (calendering) method, special-shaped die drawing method and strip sash method.  

 1. The drawing method of special-shaped die is similar to the production process of circular wire. The special-shaped drawing die with rectangular hole is used for drawing.  However, this method can only produce flat wires with low width-thickness ratio, and it is easy to cause uneven deformation or even fracture of the alloy wire, which can not produce products with high precision and surface quality.  

 2, strip slitting method is the most common in China.  The process uses a slitting machine to cut strips of large width to obtain narrow strips with a minimum width of about 3mm.  The advantage of the strip sill process is that it is less difficult to process, and the processing cost is low in the case of large width. The disadvantage is that with the decrease of width, the number and cost of the cutter increases rapidly, so that it is practically impossible to produce ultra-narrow wire with width less than 2mm.  The second disadvantage is that the transverse tension in the process of cutting the knife is extremely easy to cause the phenomenon of sickle bending and wire twisting, so that the product is unqualified.  In addition, the products obtained by slitting method must be packaged in plates, and the bulk weight cannot be obtained by horizontal winding.  

 3. The circular wire flat roll rolling method requires that the material circular wire be first pulled to a precise line diameter, and then rolled by multiple flat rolls.  The process requires more expensive equipment investment and more strict production process, but avoids the defects of the above two processes, uniform mechanical properties, throughness, flatness, and precise specifications, excellent surface quality, is the production of ultra-thin thin fine flat line must be a process.  

 The second major step in flat wire production is heat treatment.  Accurate and consistent mechanical and electrical properties are achieved by precisely controlling annealing temperature, wire walking speed and tension.
